The spaces in between . . .

Interstitial  was a show about the spaces in between objects.  It was an exploration of the interactions of space, material, color, and atmosphere.  The use of transparent fabrics enhanced the play of overlapping colors,  lending a more cohesive feeling to the space.  Various elements of the show included soft sculptures, hand dyed silk fabrics, and polyester drapes.

All of the elements in the show had another more elusive character, play.  Visitors to the show were invited to touch and interact with the pieces.  As the show was held in a children's center, it was an ideal environment to welcome play.

Below are some photos that highlight those interactions with visitors.  In the invitation to physically touch with the pieces, barriers quickly dropped, and the children gave their most honest reactions.  One goal of this decision was to build more involvement in the show from the community. Another was to invite visitors to see not just with their eyes, but feel the environment with their entire body.

This exhibit was made possible through the support of Paradise AIR.
